Yes, your eyes are not fooling you, that is snow. We all know that old man winter doesn't stick to the calendar and Mother Nature throws us a change up when we are expecting the fast ball. The point is we do indeed get snow in April and what you see is completely normal.
In fact, based on historical weather data (1971-2000 climate normal’s), we average 5.7 cm of snow each April. That doesn't seem like a lot but there have been days in April with more. The record for snowfall in the month of April was set back in 1939 on April 10th. If we jumped into the De Lorean, sent 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to the trusty flux capacitor and travelled back to that record breaking day, 26.7 cm of snow would be on the ground. Temperatures are also more like winter. Normally, daytime highs are near 9 C for early April and last time I checked, the mercury was hovering around 1 C. These kinds of temperatures are typical for early March, not April. So if you want to say the weather we have currently is more like winter, you will hear no arguing from me. Just keep in mind this does happen from time to time in early spring. As I always say, spring is a transition season and we have the chance to get weather more like summer but yes sometimes more like winter.
The weather system responsible for this wacky weather will finally depart on Wednesday so until then, expect cool and damp conditions. Oh, on another note for you dog owners like me. This kind of weather is perfect for MPS which can be very bad for carpets so remember to clean your dog's paws. Not clear what MPS is...........it stands for Muddy Paw Syndrome and dog's love to get it and share it with you. I have a border collie that gets MPS everytime she goes outside. You only have to forget about it once to dirty your carpets.
Potter
This is Koda without MPS........
